Road Trip

We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Washington. Any tips on how to entertain a 3 year old in the car for 14 hours?!? I am in desperate need of help!

Yes, I took pictures

Well some might think I am a little strange for bringing a camera to take pictures for Schads surgery. But he is my one and only, my pride and joy, my best little buddy and I like to document everything in his life. So the surgery went really well with no complications. Not that it was fun or easy in any kind of way but he is healthy and I am grateful for that. We had to get up really early yesterday morning to put this numbing cream on his hands so he didn't feel it when they stuck him for the IV, then we headed over to the hospital at 7:15 am. They gave him this juice to drink to calm him down so he didnt freak out when he saw the needle, or when they took him from me. The juice worked great and made Schad a little loopy as you will see in the video. The video I took was just at the beginning so you can tell he is a little out of it, but I didn't tape when he was really silly. So anyways, they took him to operate at about 9:00 and by 9:25 I was freaking out. (They told me it would take 20 minutes). But then the good old doc came right after that and started talking to Adam about Medical School (Adam shadowed this doctor last year) "Um...hello what about my baby that just had surgery." (I said it a little nicer than that) "Oh ya...so your son did great. Everything looks good and there were no complications" So when I thought about Schad having surgery I only thought about up until that point, when the doctor came and told me everything was ok. I didn't think about the aftermath. Well at about 9:45 the nurse came to get me and take me to Schad because he was starting to wake up. They said only one of us could come so I went back by myself thinking Schad would jump into my arms and be so glad to see me. Um no...he couldnt even open his eyes, he was like thrashing on the bed and moaning and screaming. I thought I was going to break down right there. I immediately asked if I could please go get my husband (I cant do this myself I thought) but they said no. So they told me to climb up in bed with him and hold him and talk to him so he could hear my voice. He finally opened his eyes with this look like "how could you let them do this to me" I dont think I have ever felt worse than at that moment. We then noticed the IV had slipped out a little bit and he wasnt getting the morphine, so nurse restuck him and then gave him some more morphine. 2 minutes later my baby was fast asleep in my arms for the next 3 hours. Yes, I held him in my arms for 3 hours. Holding a 30 pounder in your arms for that long is straining but I loved every minute of it. The next time he awoke he was a lot better and started eating ice cream, popsicles, pudding (very healthy) They then let us check out at and go home around 3:00. He has been pretty good since we got home as long as I stay on top of his medicine. He has just been laying around most of the time. I just can't wait until he feels totally better. Watching your child be in so much pain was awful. Anyways, here are some pics of the event. (Sorry this is so long, blame it on journaling purposes)

Enlarged and bacteria infested Tonsils and adenoids, and fluid behind the ears

That is the diagnosis of the Ear, Nose, Throat specialist that I took Schad to today. When I took him in for his 3 year check-up the doctor told me that his tonsils looked enlarged and to "keep an eye on it". Well after that I did keep an eye on it and noticed things that I had never given a second thought to. Such as how much Schad snores at night, how stinky his breath always is, how he never has his mouth shut for more than a couple seconds before it is opened again to breath. Well I started getting nervous and feeling like a complete idiot that I had never questioned these things before. So I called the ENT and took him in today and on June 25th he goes in for surgery. AAAHH! Surgery on my 3 year old? Scary! So he has to have his tonsils and adenoids removed, as well as have tubes put in his ears. Anyone with a little kid can imagine the fear I am experiencing right now imagining that my little baby has to be put under anesthesia and have his throat cut open. Please keep little Schady in your prayers, and lets hope that everything goes as "routine" as they say it does.

Everything seems to be coming together for our next big step in this crazy life. We have a place to live in Kentucky. Although I have only seen pictures it looks like a super nice and safe place to live. There are only two bedrooms, but it is almost double the size of where we are living now, which will be way nice. It has a swimming pool, fitness center, and a playground for Schad. And of course washer/dryer hookups which I am absoltely ecstatic for. We also have our one-way plane tickets to Kentucky, which is really weird. I have never bought one way tickets before, its like we really aren't coming back. Crazy!! We also have our truck reserved with the company that is taking our stuff, and shipping our car. Now all thats left is the dreaded packing and cleaning. Ugh! Not looking forward to that. We will be officially leaving Rexburg on July 23rd, but come July we won't be around much since we will be visiting our families.
Schad is still just as cute as ever. I started him in a tumble class, its more like an exercise class for kids. They do jumping jacks, forward rolls, run around the room and just that kind of stuff. It is really funny to watch Schad but he loves it and for being the youngest in the class he actually does a really good job at listening and following instructions. We also joined the summer reading program at the library and he loves going every week to get his special prize for reading with me.
We decided to finally make his crib into a toddler bed. We have been hesitant to do this because he sleeps so good in his crib and I was afraid if I put him in a bed that he would be up and out and not go to sleep. But now that we are moving and going to be getting him a twin size bed when we get there we thought we should prepare him a little bit. Little steps at a time. So he is now in a toddler bed and he has done so well. He gets in at night and at nap time and goes right to sleep. It's amazing! The first couple mornings he even called for me to come get him out of bed and I would just remind him that once he is awake in the morning its ok for him to get out by himself. So these last couple mornings I have woken up to Schads little face right in mine! So cute! He is so quiet when he comes in my room, and he kind of just stares at me then starts like rubbing my arm, like I do to him at night when I put him to bed.
So now our next big step is to work on potty training again. Not looking forward to that!
Well thats what is going on with us! (Wow, sorry for the super long boring post)

Paaartay!!

We had Schady's Thomas the train party, and I would say it was a success. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and he got such cute gifts. He loved every one of them and we really appreciate it, so thanks to everyone who came and gave him the cute presents. So we started off with a game of pin the nose on Thomas. Most of the kids were a little confused with the whole blind fold thing and really did not like not being able to see, but they still had fun. We then had cake and ice cream, followed by the breaking of the Thomas pinata, and then presents. It was so fun, but I think I am done with birthday parties for a while now. Lots of Work..but definitely worth it because it made my Schad so happy. Adam and I gave him his bike and he is just a little nervous about riding it. I am sure with a little practice he will get the hang of it. Here are some pictures from the big event. I didn't get really good pictures since I was trying to keep the party going, and also trying to video record everything.
